Platelet-rich plasma

Platelet-rich plasma has seen a surge in popularity lately, and is touted to help many conditions, from hair loss to scarring. However, there haven’t yet been many clinical studies done to show that it’s effective.

What is platelet-rich plasma?

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) treatment involves taking a small amount of your blood, placing it into a machine that separates the platelet-rich plasma from the rest of the blood, and injecting this into the area to be treated. This plasma contains high concentrations of platelets and growth factors, which are thought to improve wound healing and tissue remodelling.

What is platelet-rich plasma used for?

There’s limited evidence suggesting that PRP treatment may be helpful for androgenetic alopecia (female and male pattern hair loss), scarring, skin rejuvenation and stretch marks

How many treatments are required?

Multiple treatments are usually required, spaced several weeks apart.
